Stevenage Leisure Limited (SLL) recognises that our activities have an impact upon the environment, the people that work for us, and the communities of whom we are a part. We aim to be good and responsible neighbours and employers, and we have in place comprehensive environmental and corporate social responsibility policies, and a culture of responsibility and awareness within the company.

 

We recognise that many of our activities provide an important opportunity to protect and improve the environment in which we work and serve, and we are focussed on managing and reducing the environmental impacts of our own businesses and that of our suppliers. The company therefore attributes a high priority to the development and use of materials, products, processes and services that seek to reduce environmental damage and waste. We expect and encourage our business partners, sub-contractors and major suppliers to share our concern for the environment, and to work with us in identifying and applying best practice

A key corporate objective for SLL is the development of an Environmental Management System (EMS) meeting ISO14001 standards and this was completed within early 2011. This will identify the efficient use of energy, water and materials, and promote the sustainable use of renewable resources in our day to day activities, and will focus on the key areas of:

Reducing our carbon footprint

SLL is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and carbon intensity by all reasonable practical methods available, contributing to the conservation and protection of the natural environment, and by taking a positive role in tackling climate change and creating a low carbon economy and society.

Empowering staff

We will empower and encourage our staff to make informed environmental choices by providing relevant information and offering affordable alternatives

Waste reduction

We will continue to search for, propose and, wherever reasonably practical, adopt low-polluting technologies, processes and practices, and employ environmentally sound waste management techniques such as: source reduction and improved specification, re-use, re-cycling and safe disposal. In addition to reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill we will look to increase recycling at all our sites to an average figure of 90%

Energy Efficiency

We will continue to promote energy efficiency and reduction through technologies and alternative energy sources such as low energy lighting, and Combined Heat and Power Units, and communicating the benefits and methods of energy reduction to staff. We will continue to closely monitor all energy consumption

We will regularly measure key aspects of our environmental performance and periodically report progress against benchmarks and targets to all stakeholders: the Stevenage Leisure Limited Board, our partners, customers, employees, and the wider community in which we serve.
