After securing a new, innovative leisure management contract for Houghton Regis Leisure Centre, Central Bedfordshire Council has invested to re-open the pool and also improve the pool-side facilities. Contractors have been working hard for the last few weeks and we are able to open the pool on a phased basis from Saturday, 26 July ready for the school summer holidays.
The new changing rooms are not complete so you will need to use the current dry-side facilities. As a result building works will be continuing over the coming weeks but the pool itself is ready for use. All other activities at the Leisure Centre remain unaffected, however the disabled hoist access is temporarily unavailable due to technical reasons. We apologise for this.
Given the size of the pool, spaces are limited and activities will be restricted to certain numbers so look out for information at the centre or here on our website, as well as our Centre’s website and social media. The first weekend’s activities (Saturday and Sunday, 26-27 July) are fully booked by community groups so the general timetable will be operational from Monday morning (28 July).
A general timetable will be operating, offering casual swimming and some specific sessions for 50+, parent and child and 8-16 year olds. All sessions will have limited bather numbers (28) due to the amount of changing room space available and all sessions will be for one hour with a half hour gap in between, again due to limited changing space. The pool will be cleared after each session. If we find that this number is too small, we’ll up the bather allowance, within health and safety guidelines.
If construction work will affect people using the pool, we’ll make sure we update users beforehand.
Thank you for your patience while we’re carrying out works and we hope you enjoy the pool.
