It is post-WWII Germany and 15-year-old Michael Berg (Leonardo DiCaprio) begins a short and passionate affair with an older woman called Hanna (Kate Winslet). He never learns very much about her and when she disappears one day, he expects never to see her again. But, nearly a decade after his affair the law student re-encounters Hanna - she is a defendant in a trial related to Germany's Nazi past..
