The Gordon Craig Youth Theatre

Open to children and young people of all abilities the Gordon Craig Youth Theatre runs three ten week terms every year, following the academic calendar. With classes for children aged 3 to eighteen our students will develop drama, movement and vocal techniques, team and social skills and have bags of fun along the way. Producing a performance at the end of each term, we annually hold a performance on the professional Gordon Craig stage.

Prices are £50 for 3- 6 year olds and £100 for all other ages with a £15 discount for every second sibling enrolled.

History of Theatre - Workshops

Join the Gordon Craig Theatre for a History of Theatre Workshop!

 

Adaptable for all Key Stages our History of Theatre workshops explore the progression of theatre through performance and staging from Ancient Greece to modern day! Including a backstage tour of the Gordon Craig Theatre our two-hour workshop will not only demonstrate the developments in performance and theatrical styles but also the advancement of stagecraft and its technology! Demonstrating how the technical side of theatre has evolved through staging, lighting and sound our workshop is not only ideal for performers but also budding technicians. As an introduction to the theatre or to consolidate learning with hands-on experience your students will love every second of our workshop.

Backstage Tours

Ideal for schools, community groups, or even a group of like minded friends and costing only £5 a head why not come and discover the secrets of our auditorium, rehearsal room, the dock area and the all important Gordon Craig stage!

Leisure 50s Classes

Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre offers a variety of activities for people aged 50 or over that run every week throughout the year. Ideal for people of all abilities classes cost only £3.50 and can be paid for at Box Office on the day of the class.

Education Courses for North Herts College

The Gordon Craig Theatre and North Herts College run a number of courses, ideal for the local community every term at Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre. From Woodturning, Watercolour, Drawing and Painting for All, Life Drawing and Creative Writing there is sure to be a class for everyone. Easter Musicals, Summer Musicals and Pantomime Workshops

Ideal for children aged 5 – 13 we will begin with a two-hour drama, dance and arts and craft workshop, children will meet the cast and then watch the pantomime with the Education team.  Costing only £20 per child places can be booked via Box Office on 01438 363200.

 

Activity Days

Join the Education team over the school holidays to take part is a range of arts and sporting activities. With the option of dropping children off from 8.30am – 5.30pm at only £20 for the day or come along to either Activity 1 or Activity 3 for just £2.00, our dedicated team are fun loving, CRB checked and First Aid Trained!

Work Experience

The Gordon Craig Theatre offers a five-day work experience to students in full time education, in partnership with the Herts Careers Service. An ‘Arts and Events’ placement gives students a complete experience of the theatre to include the Press and Publicity, Backstage, Box Office and Front of House departments.  A ‘Backstage’ placement will give students the opportunity to gain a full week’s work experience exclusive to the stage and technical aspects of the theatre. For a work placement please call the Hertfordshire Careers Service (HCS) on 01462 705000.
